Today in the Art World...

In an unanticipated move, the billionaire art collector Eli Broad has decided not to gift his collection of 2,000 works to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, which opens its Broad Contemporary Art Museum addition in February. Instead, he'll loan pieces to LACMA and other institutions in order that his acquisitions don't languish in storage.

A work of the artist David Ireland is available not on the auction block but through a realtor.

Auctioneer Bonhams is headed to Dubai.
