Joan Snyder on the Art World in 2007
The ball has dropped outside our window at 4 Times Square, but Figure Painting isn't done with its year-in-review series just yet. Today, Joan Snyder, an abstract painter and recent recipient of a MacArthur "genius grant", recalls the best of what she saw in 2007 and offers a tip that collectors itching to find the next new thing might do good to take to heart.
Favorite Museum Exhibition
Anselm Kiefer, Heaven and Earth, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art & Brice Marden, A Retrospective of Paintings and Drawings, Museum of Modern Art, New York
Favorite Gallery Show
The show that was an absolute spiritual experience for me (this never happens at an art gallery!) was Mary Lucier at Lennon, Weinberg, Inc., and I loved two other shows: Katia Santibañez at Morgan Lehman Gallery and Deborah Kass at Paul Kasmin Gallery.
Etc.
My favorite gallery website to see great young and mid-career artists is www.crggallery.com.
