Deck Yourself With Calder
An exhibition of Alexander Calder's jewelry opens at the Norton Simon Museum of Art in West Palm Beach in February, and last week Figure Painting told you where you could find your own Calder bauble: Salon 94 Freeman, where The Crown Jewels opened today. Prices and more details were promised. Today we have them: The show features three bracelets, one for $195,000 and two for $150,000 each; a spiral brooch for $175,000; a silver Andalusian hair comb for $175,000; and a silver necklace for a cool half a million dollars. (The large sculptures and mobiles for which the artist is most well known sell for a million plus at auction.) What a compromise for those who can't decide whether to surprise their loved ones with a piece of art or a piece of jewelry for Christmas.
