The late Richard S. Zeisler, a inconspicuous collector of modern art, has gifted his $100 million collection to 16 institutions, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington.

Christie's sale of Old Master works last night in London failed to meet its pre-sale estimate.

Damien Hirst and Bono are organizing an auction at Sotheby's on February 14, 2008 to raise money for HIV/AIDS programs in Africa.

The Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C. has appointed a new director: Dr. Dorothy Kosinski, who comes from the Dallas Museum of Art, where she was senior curator of painting and sculpture.

A sketch that Michelangelo made for the dome of St. Peter's Basilica shortly before his death has been found in the basilica's offices. According to the Vatican newspaper, it is "the last known design of the artist."

Tyler Green breaks the news that Dia has sold its Chelsea space for $38.55 million, according to real estate records, on his blog Modern Art Notes.
