Today in the Art World...

Sotheby's lost $14.6 million on auction guarantees made for impressionist and modern works on the block this week.

The heirs of Adele Bloch-Bauer, who sold a gilt portrait of the muse to Ronald Lauder last year, have now given two sculptures by George Minne to Lauder's Neue Galerie. The pieces were restituted to the family last week.

Last night, a judge granted a temporary injunction to delay the sale of four paintings from Randolph College's Maier Museum at Christie's this month until the litigation disputing the deaccessioning of the works is resolved.

Post-war and contemporary art takes its turn at auction next week. Later today, a preview of what Christie's has to offer.
