Bad Banksys on eBay

The graffiti artist Banksy, about whom I've written before, makes his work available to the public for free on his website. For the price of a sheet of 8½ x 11 paper, you can print your own genuine Banksy. But the artist also sells limited edition prints of his work through the company Pictures on Walls for hundreds of dollars, and, as it turns out, some rogue employees have been selling unauthorized Banksy prints on eBay, driving up the prices by themselves placing bids on the lots.

The Art Newspaper claims that a whistleblower involved in the fraud tipped them off.

In typical sarcastic fashion, Banksy told the paper, "This is particularly unfortunate for the people who buy my work to flip it for a quick profit on eBay, as I wouldn't want to affect their mark-up."

Serves them right. Who could justify spending $12,210, as one of the bad prints went for, when you could have something similar for next to nothing?
