Marian Goodman Gallery's "30/40"
Part one of Marian Goodman's 30th anniversary exhibition opens tonight with
a selection of work by 21 artists — another 19 will be represented in the
second installment of the show, which opens on October 23rd, hence the title
"30/40."
Goodman is known for bringing important European artists to the American
art scene, including Marcel Broodthaers. She represents Gerhard Richter,
Jeff Wall, Rineke Dijkstra, and William Kentridge, amongst many other
well-established and respected painters, sculptors, photographers, and
installation and video artists. In his 2004 profile of the gallerist, New
Yorker art critic Peter Schjeldahl wrote, "Goodman may be the most respected
contemporary dealer in New York, for her taste, standards, and loyalty to
her artists." (Full disclosure: This art market blogger once interned at Goodman's gallery.)
No clue as to exactly which pieces will be included in part one of "30/40,"
but we'll be back tomorrow with more details.
