In the Battle of the Barnes, A Point is Scored

The Barnes Foundation has officially acquired the property on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway it's been eyeing. Today, Philadelphia mayor John Street put his signature on legislation that lets the foundation take out a long-term lease on the site, which is currently occupied by — of all things — a juvenile detention center. Some citizens are not happy about the proposed relocation of the center's residents to a psychiatric institute, and so the Barnes has gained another enemy. Mark Schwartz, a lawyer for the Friends of the Barnes, a group challenging the foundation's move to the city from its suburban home, is quoted as follows: "This is positively underwhelming because that Youth Study Center is not going anywhere anytime soon." We'll see.
