Men are still spending--or women are spending on them. NPD Group says while sales of women's wear fell 3.8 percent in the first half of 2008, men's clothing sales rose 2.1 percent. (DNR)

J.C. Penney saw a 35.7 percent decline in profits for the second quarter. (DNR) Abercrombie & Fitch was down 4.2 percent but still beat analyst expectations. (WWD) Swatch's profits slid 9.1 percent in the first half, even though watch and jewelry sales were up. (WWD)
