Caovilla's Got a Brand New Bag

Italian luxury shoe maker Rene Caovilla, known for stick-thin stilettos and jewel-encrusted embellished shoes, has decided to leverage a 20 percent increase in his handbag division, which has grown over the two seasons since its inception -and continues to, at a brisk pace. According to today's WWD, Caovilla has hired a larger design team in his studios in Milan. It just goes to show you - handbags are still the hottest selling accessory, even as department stores see major declines in clothing sales. The average price of a high end designer handbag this fall has climbed from about fifteen hundred dollars to twenty five hundred and above - but sales of bags show no signs of sliding. No wonder every luxe designer -even shoe designers - are stuffing money into their handbags. (http://www.wwd.com/markets-news/caovilla-steps-ahead-with-bags-stores-1659829)
