Drawing in Designer Fans

Shawn Bell knows that face-time with a designer sells his product.

Consequently, the owner of the newly-opened boutique Bellhaus in Wainscott, makes sure there's a designer making a personal appearance in his store each weekend.

"I wanted to find a different way of merging fashion and lifestyle," Bell told Portfolio.com for his store that sells designers like Balenciaga, Lanvin and Bottega Veneta. "When designers are in the store and customers can talk to them and touch the clothes, they buy more."

A visit from designer Doo.ri last weekend drew in L.A. Reid and his wife, Erica, Deborah Roberts and B. Smith plus shoppers. "Doo.ri was smart and brought some resort pieces which people bought," Bell said.

CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist Jason Woo will be in the store from 3 to 5 p.m. this Saturday.

And Bellhaus' bottom line is seeing the results. "The store opened on May 25 and we're 58 percent ahead of our projected sales to date."
