Morning Hemlines: Steve & Barry's, TerraCycle, Brooks Brothers and Under Armour

Things continue to unravel for retailer Steve & Barry's, which is preparing a plan to close more than 100 stores--even as it opened nine in the past few weeks. (WSJ)

Fertilizer company TerraCycle is "upcycling" food wrappers into accessories like umbrellas, totes, and backpacks, to be sold at retailers including Target and Walgreens. (WSJ)

Brooks Brothers will open its first freestanding Black Fleece store in New York this fall in response to the line's successes--particularly in Japan; Thom Browne will stay on as the line's designer until 2011. (WWD)

New Virginia laws create harsher penalties for counterfeiting and trademark infringement and give state officials more authority to seize and forfeit counterfeit items. (DNR)

Athletic apparel manufacturer Under Armour has hired former Lands End president David McCreight to expand the brand, take on Nike with its new line of sneakers, which debuted in May. (Transworld News)
