Louis Vuitton Bets Big On The Murakami Bags

Louis Vuitton is moving its Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art exhibition to Brooklyn. As in Los Angeles, Vuitton is opening a store to sell colorful monogram handbags and other bits and bobs done in collaboration with the Japanese artist Takashi Murakami. They're also showing limited-edition art canvasses with a new design by Murakami and Marc Jacobs called Monogramouflage.

So what of the Richard Prince bags that my friend Felix liked so much? Is it too soon for there to be a retrospective or could it be that they're not the success that some people thought they'd be. I didn't see a single sole carrying one at the recent collections -- or anywhere for that matter.

WWD reports that Vuitton is planning a special performance art piece highlighting the global problems with counterfeits. Since Prince's bags were designed to look like counterfeits, perhaps that is where we'll see him come in.
