Milan Fashion Week: Versace

It's been a sort of topsy-turvy fashion week where many designers did the unexpected. Sometimes for the better, sometimes not. I happened to like the switch in Versace. Out came very strong and simple clothes for day -- navy shift dresses, trouser suits, bomber jackets made of fur (simple for Versace, that is). The big leather bags were chic and practical. The shoes were neither. But the when the evening wear began the message really got confused. Agyness Deyn was wearing a dress of black that looked almost like a liquid -- and looked like she might drown in it. It was a perfect ending for a confused Milan season. Cavalli was doing summer clothes. Dolce was doing the 1970s. Matthew Williamson managed to Pucci in a calm, sophisticated manner worth of the house and its traditions. Armani was ranting against Anna Wintour and, most importantly, for the first time ever it didn't rain once during fashion week. See you in Paris ...
