Details Bucks Cover Convention

WWD explains what makes a best-selling cover -- and opens with an 1980s quote from People magazine founder Richard Stolley. "Young is better than old. Pretty is better than ugly. Rich is better than poor. Movies are better than music. Music is better than television. Television is better than sports...and anything is better than politics." Later, after Elvis died, Stolley added: "Nothing is better than a dead celebrity." Today Stoley says for a celeb to sell, "There's something about that person on the cover that you don't know that you want to know."

Is there anything we don't know about Kevin Federline, divorced husband of Britney Spears? Details has had him on the cover two times in the last two years -- and the most recent, last month's, is on track to sell more than 15,000 than the first. But if it is any consolation for those of you who shudder at the mere mention of him or her -- Daniel Radcliffe will likely outsell K-Fed's best by 16,000.
