Alexander McQueen Is Robbed

WWD reports that the Alexander McQueen studio was robbed in December. Not the store, mind you, but the studio. Thieves took 'administrative' computers and handbag samples from the Fall 2008 collection. When thieves robbed the Christoper Kane studio in September, they got luckier. His whole Spring 2008 collection had been sampled and was ready to be shown. They took most of it and his laptop, for good measure. Since the beginning of last year eight London shops have been robbed by gangs on mopeds. Are the studio thieves related to the store thieves? I don't think so. In fact, it doesn't seem McQueen's thieves are particularly fashion-savvy at all. If they were, they'd have known the pickings would have been better in a few weeks when the Fall women's line is finished. Instead, they got some fairly useless market data and some poor, unsuspecting girlfriend probably got a very special (if a bit late), very-limited-edition, McQueen handbag for Christmas. Ladies, if you were given one that you don't see in the shops, you might want to think twice before hitting Bond Street with it on your arm. And you might ask the giver where they were on the night of December 27th. □
