Paris Fashion Week: James McCarthur Spotted at Gaultier

The news that James McCarthur was leaving Gucci Group last summer took pretty much everybody by surprise. McCarthur was highest ranking of the few executives left at Gucci from the De Sole. And, even more odd, he managed to retain the love of DeSole and Ford while pleasing his new bosses by continuing to deliver. As the C.E.O. of Balenciaga, he turned what could have been a conceptual fashion-lovers only label into a money making machine. All the while keeping designer Nicolas Ghesquiere happy -- no mean feat. But then, suddenly, when everything seemed so rosy he just up and left without so much as no comment. Imagine then, the surprise and delight of fashion business journalists everywhere when he was spotted in the second row of the Jean Paul Gaultier show. What could it mean? Probably that he's decided it's time to look for a new job.
