Congratulations, Stella and Young Gucci Group Designers

No, she hasn't had another baby. But congratulations are due to Stella McCartney because her U.K. operation made a profit this year -- a year earlier than the target set by Gucci Group C.E.O. Robert Poulet. No doubt license agreements with Adidas and Le Sportsac helped, but sales at her store were also up 50 percent in the last year.

Another Gucci Group emerging brand showed in Paris yesterday. Balenciaga is one of the few brands that sets the style agenda. You have Nicolas Ghesquiere to thank for those Gap jodphurs. And you'll have him to thank when you start seeing flowers everywhere next spring. They're planning the first Balenciaga directly owned store now, fulled by sales of more accessible Ghesquiere trademarks like the City line of handbags and this season's ethnic print scarves.

If Alexander McQueen has a strong show, it'll be a PPR home run this week.
