Fashion Week: Damien Hirst and Product Placement At The Prada Party

Felix Salmon chastised me last night for not blogging that Damien Hirst wore a jacket with a diamante skull on the back to his party for his band's first U.S. concert at the Prada store in SoHo. The band is The Hours and Damien backs them and I don't mean on the drums.

His jacket was just one of a zillion skulls littering the place. There was the giant mirror-ball skull hanging from the ceiling, specially created skull wall paper and (if I remember correctly) neon skulls projected over the bar. At the party hip Londoners debated if Damien and his dealer Jay Jopling hadn't borrowed money to buy his $100 million diamond skull themselves in hopes of further increasing its value. Reports said it was bought by a group of "anonymous investors."

Damien is that commercially savvy and with the amount of product placement seen at Prada I wouldn't be surprised if he was still pushing the thing.
