The Young and Talented Katie Grand Goes To Mulberry

Stylist Katie Grand has been given the creative director reins at Mulberry, following the announcement that Stuart Vevers will go to Loewe. Grand has worked closely with Vevers at Mulberry and has styled for a host of big brands (they call her "A Grand A Minute" in London) including Prada, Miu Miu, and Louis Vuitton. She's also worked closely on product with designers before -- most memorably with Giles Deacon and Stuart Vevers at Bottega Veneta before the brand was bought by Gucci Group. I wasn't a big fan of their attempts to modernize it by using neon colors in things like pink leopard-skin print body suits, but judging by the comments she made to Vogue.com, she's taking a different tact with this leather goods house. I've also heard that she's turned down job offers from Chloe and other fashion houses who were desperately seeking new talent, telling recruiters that she's a stylist not a designer. Maybe not, but as a creative director I think she'll thrive.
