First Prada Phone Sales Figures

I was told yesterday that the Prada phone, done in collaboration with LG, has sold over 300,000 units since its launch in March. Earlier this month, LG announced it went from a loss of 9 billion won to a profit of 385 billion won or $420 million thanks to sales of premium phones, though it didn't break out the figures for the Prada phone. Some analysts were expecting the iPhone to sell 500,000 over the launch weekend. But it looks like it didn't come close. The Apple stock took a 6 percent drop yesterday when AT&T announced it only activated 146,000 iPhones. That makes the figures of the Prada phone -- with its similar touch screen technology -- seem all the more impressive. Comparison of Prada Phone and iPhone Or not. Apple will releases its sales figures (as opposed to activation figures) with Q2 results today. Of course it's hard to believe that there are 350,000 sitting in boxes waiting to be sold on ebay. Prada execs told me they will consider doing another phone, but only if LG can guarantee technology that will remain ahead of the curve. In the meantime, keep an eye out for the new Samsung Armani phone coming in October. □
