Garrad Loses Crown Jeweller

The Queen of England has appointed a new crown jeweler -- ending a 164-year relationship with Garrard. The current crown jeweler, David V. Thomas, retires this month and the Queen has chosen a small jeweler in Kent, Harry Collins, to look after her gems.

Could the move have anything to do with the brand's current counter-establishment stance which puts more emphasis on pop stars like Christina Aguilera (who is the new face of the brand) and the off spring of pop stars like Jade Jagger (who was once the brand's creative director)? Hmmm, what do you think?

The brand is now owned by Ron Burkle -- and yes, we're still waiting to see what he'll do with the currently vacant creative director position.
