Michael Teperson's Man Bag

I don't blog products much here -- there are a huge number of sites one can turn to for that. But when something seems particularly Portfolio, like, say, a collection of travel basics by Yves Saint Laurent I make an exception. I was in Milan yesterday and went to see the showroom of my favorite handbag designer, Michael Teperson. In the showroom are prototypes of his first bags for men. I still think the ultimate man bag is a holy grail of sorts. What to carry so you don't have to stuff pockets with wallet, phone, keys and such but is smaller than a briefcase and yet doesn't look like a woman's clutch?

Teperson has done messenger bags with detachable pouches on the front. The heavy stuff, computer, gym kit, etc, can go in the main bag and the outer bag can hold the above-mentioned essentials. When it's time to go out in the evening, simply snap off the pouch. It's about the size of a laptop pouch, making it easily distinguishable from the European-style man-bags of yore.

Sadly, there's no photo of it.

But this is another of the bags in the men's collection, the canvas and calf Weekender, which will be in stores at $1,200 from October. Which stores? Wait and see, they're still selling the collection. But his women's collection is at Joseph and Harrods in London and Bergdorf Goodman in New York.
