Jealous of Tamara Mellon? Not Anymore.

Jimmy Choo is one of the great fashion success stories of our day. The brand was born only 12 years ago and is already a household name with all the rap songs and product placement that implies. (It was the first shoe brand mentioned on Sex and the City). The president and "founder" (the real Jimmy was bought out ages ago) Tamara Mellon seems to have it all. She's pretty, rich, and gets to date guys like George Clooney. The Jimmy Choo company recently sold to Towerbrook Capital, a private equity company, for uk pounds 185 million and while Tamara stayed on as President, she also took a position on the Halston board. (Mellon brought the Halston deal to Harvey Weinstein.)

A British Vogue article this month talks about how all that money has caused a rif between Tamara and her mom. Daily Mail columnist Richard Kay put much of that information (without crediting Vogue, in typical tabloid fashion) and more into a recent column. Mom is suing Tamara for half of the proceeds of the sale. Mom is under the impression that shares held in a trust for her grandaughter Minty are really hers. Nice! Tamara's ex, Matthew Mellon of the Mellon Bank Mellons, is trying to broker a peace agreement between Tamara and her Mom. That's also pretty nice given that she recently told a court that he " was like a child" and couldn't read a comic book. Those shares will be worth more soon: the company just signed with Selective Beauty to launch a fragrance.
