Chic New Investment Fund

I read in the Sunday Times yesterday that there's a new investment fund being launched for lovers of luxury. CHIC plans to invest in luxury names and the minimum investment is only 5,000 pounds (about $10,000). It is also going to make public the companies it is investing in -- brands like Apple and BMW on the lifestyle side and LVMH and Burberry on the fashion side.

Although it is trading on the Irish stock market I'm tempted to invest. Sure, there's the old "invest in what you know" rationale but luxury has been going through a boom and what better way to hedge the inherent risk of fads and bad collections? Even major blips like September 11 haven't dented the sector for long.

According to Fund AIM Alternatives Intelligence Magazine, analysis of the brands in the portfolio over a three year period showed they beat the FTSE 70.63 percent to the FTSE's 44.22 percent.
