Zac Posen, the Blog
I saw Zac Posen last night at the opening of a shamefully under publicized event at the Victoria & Albert museum. He was in fine form and, as usual, surrounded by beautiful women wearing his clothes.

He told me that he plans to start a blog on his site. He's currently sending clandestine interoffice emails to figure out which employee is most naturally inclined to take on the monitoring of it. He said he's doing it because he wants to hear "people's experiences in our clothing, or with the Christmas barbie. Our woman is so creative, I think it is will be a great forum for people."
I think it's a fabulous idea, but for reasons he may have not thought of yet. Consuelo Castiglioni, the designer at Marni, told me that opening her first store was a watershed moment because of the direct feedback she got from consumers. With no store to his name (yet), this is a great way for a young designer to still have the benefit of that direct feedback.
It's also a move that only a young designer would brave. The fashion industry was notoriously slow to embrace the internet. Only about six years ago they were still shy about having runway pictures put up online. Now those runway shots are one of the hit features of many a style site and if a designer isn't photographed by, say, Vogue.com or Style.com, they'll send the photos in themselves and ask to be included in the online round up.
Anna Wintour hates the word blog, and I have to say I'm with her there. My business cards say "contributor." There aren't many sites or blogs devoted to the business of fashion, so I haven't yet felt the need for a formal blog roll here. (If you have suggestions, please post them.) But every once in a while I may point to something I find. Recently I discovered the "Style Scribbler." An intrepid internet fashion journalist (and purveyor of vintage clothing), she and a friend recently went to see Didier Grumbach, the president of the Federation de la Mode de la Couture in Paris to try and get credentials to cover the shows for another fashion website.
I won't tell you what happened, but you can read it yourself here. Maybe Zac has found his blogger.
