The Hot Place To Be Seen is the Milan Bourse

It looks like 2007 might turn out to be a banner year for fashion IPOs. Both Versace and Ferragamo have brought it their first outside CEOs (Giancarlo Di Riso and Michele Norsa respectively) in an attempt to get their companies ready for a listing. Patrizio Bertelli is still running the show at Prada Group, but his sale last year of Helmut Lang and Jil Sander, brands he probably shouldn't have acquired in the first place, shows that he's finally listening to advisors who are urging more discipline before braving the bourse. You may not have heard of Aeffe, but you've probably heard of its brands -- Moschino, Alberta Ferretti and Pollini. The family-run company began talking of an IPO back in 2000, shortly before Prada first its IPO plans, but now with the bourse and the industry on an uptick, it seems the time might finally be right. □
