Tesla SUV Lights Up Sales
Consumers willing to burn money instead of gasoline have been very good to Tesla Motors this week.
They anted up $40 million in preorders for the Northern California automaker’s electric SUV, the Model X, within 24 hours of the introduction of a prototype of the crossover, the company announced Tuesday.
Those orders came in for a vehicle that’s not expected to roll off the company’s Fremont, California, production line until 2014 and for which the final price hasn’t yet been set. It’s fair to say the response to Tesla’s latest planned offering has been, well, electric.
