Like a Virgin Entrepreneur
Ok, so the headline might be a little misleading. Madonna has been a shrewd and creative business person for three decades now, so calling her a "virgin entrepreneur" isn't quite right. But with the opening of the first of her planned network of high-end fitness centers, it seemed an appropriate way to riff on her entrepreneurial drive while taking advantage of one her best song titles.
The first gym opened Monday night in Mexico City, and others will crop up in the coming months in nine other international destinations. The connection to the Material Girl is inescapable. Large, stylized portraits of her seem to be everywhere (click here for images posted today in Jezebel).
Hard Candy Fitness may have gotten its name from Madonna's 11th studio album, but it also carries some of her bold marketing attitude. "It's a sexy name that gives you the opportunity to have fun and to build strength as far as the imagination will allow," Madonna said at the club opening.

- Trial, Error, Biz Is Born in Cali: Allan Grant and his colleagues followed the classic Bay Area startup model, from meeting in a coffee shop to working out of the house they rented.
- Debt Bomb Not Yet Defused: The EU's massive new bailout fund will buy some time, but it won't solve Europe's debt crisis, says economist Nouriel Roubini.
