Susan Sarandon's Second Act
At an age when many people are thinking seriously about retiring to the the golf course, 63-year-old movie star Susan Sarandon is moving into one new venture after another.
Her latest: table tennis entrepreneur.
Now separated from long-time partner Tim Robbins, Sarandon has helped launch a number of bars called Spin, which are geared around ping-pong. The first opened in the Flatiron district in New York, and additional locations have been added in the U.S. and Dubai. She says that she "enjoys playing the sport and finds it a great way to relax after shooting a movie. 'We're kind of embracing the dorkiness with a sense of humour. Dorky can also be cool.' "
She also runs a hotel of sorts, which is how she refers to the home in New York, where sons Jack, 21, and Miles 18, spend time with her. "I like to think of it as some sort of artistic commune," she says. "So far, they're not picking up their towels as much as I'd like to see, so it's more of a hotel."
