Obama Returns to Stadium Stage
President Barack Obama is going the stadium route again with his acceptance speech at this year’s Democratic National Convention.
The Democratic Party announced today that Obama will accept its nomination for president at Charlotte, North Carolina’s Bank of America Stadium. In 2008, Obama’s acceptance speech was moved to the Denver Broncos’ football stadium. In both cases, party officials said the move was made to allow more Americans to attend the acceptance speech.
The party also is shortening its convention to three days. On what would have been its fourth day -- Labor Day -- the party will host a celebration of the Carolinas, Virginia and the South at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
“We want this convention to be about more than just the pageantry and speeches you see on television,” said Debbie Wasserman Shultz, chair of the Democratic National Committee and a member of the House from Florida. “This is about engaging Americans in a meaningful way.”
Especially swing-state Southerners ... Y’all come.
