Rig Blows in Gulf

A mile-long sheen of oil was spotted near an oil production platform that exploded in the Gulf of Mexico this morning.

The offshore oil rig has exploded west of BP’s Deepwater Horizon blowout that led to a gusher spewing millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.

Thirteen people aboard the production platform when it exploded are safe, and the Coast Guard has assets standing by in case of oil pollution.

Blaine Dinger, director of environmental safety Houston-based Mariner confirmed that the oil and gas production platform is owned and operated by the company.
