Cleantech VC Deals Hit Record
The first quarter saw a record number of venture capital investments in cleantech, 180, up from 165 in the fourth quarter of 2009.
A report by Deloitte LLP and the Cleantech Group LLC said preliminary data showed $1.9 billion was invested in 180 companies in North America, Europe, China, and India.
Investment was up 29 percent from the fourth quarter of 2009 and up 83 percent from the first quarter a year ago, the San Francisco Business Times reported.
Investment by utilities and corporations in the cleantech area also grew significantly. Florida Power & Light Co., Duke Energy, and CenterPoint Energy each got $200 million grants from the Department of Energy as they focused on smart-grid investments.
More details available from the San Francisco Business Times.
