Rush Gets Tackled on Rams Deal
Sporting News reports: Rush Limbaugh won't be owning the Rams. According to a report from ESPN.com, Dave Checketts, the chairman of St. Louis' NHL team, the Blues, has decided to drop Limbaugh from a group bidding to become the next owners of the city's NFL team.
The reasoning behind dropping Rush? Avoid the potential snags and negative attention that has come with including Limbaugh because of the ultraconservative talk-radio host's polarizing nature. Several players and NFLPA head DeMaurice Smith have already been vocally opposed to Limbaugh's potential ownership.
Also, Colts owner Jim Irsay said he would not have supported Limbaugh as a fellow owner, and even NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he believed Limbaugh's "divisive" and "polarizing" comments would have reflected negatively on the league.
The move will require Checketts' group to scramble and find another capable investor. Dare we say it: Without Limbaugh, the Rams' future is further in limbo. Kind of like most of their current players on an 0-5 team.
