44, Day 88: The Road to Trinidad
An ongoing log of the daily activities of the 44th president of the United States during his first 100 days:
-President Obama arrived in Mexico on Thursday for the start of a four-day trip into Latin America and he vowed to go after the transfer of assault weapons across the US-Mexico border as one way to stem the bloodshed attributed to the drug trade. Plus, Obama said he favors immigration reform that would create a more orderly process for those Mexicans who want to come to the US. "My country has been greatly enriched by immigrants from Mexico," Obama said.
-On Friday, Obama left Mexico for Trinidad to take part in the 34-nation Summit of the Americas. One topic to watch for: whether the Organization of American States changes its stance and admits Cuba.
-Don't hold your breath for a meeting between Obama and Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez during the Latin American summit.
