44, Day 50: Halfway There
An ongoing log of the daily activities of the 44th president of the United States during his first 100 days:
-President Obama today laid out a blueprint for what he wants to see done with American education, with an emphasis on encouraging charter schools topping his wish list. His view, one normally held by Republicans and not his fellow Democrats, is sure to be opposed by teacher unions.
-With the Obama presidency at the mid-point in the symbolic 100-day clock, a quick check of how he's doing. Liberal Democrats are starting to question him because of bailouts for the financial sector, says the Washington Post. The new president is splintering Republicans and business groups, says Bloomberg. And the Dow remains unkind, falling about 18 percent since his inauguration (down 32 percent since his election), says CBS News.
-United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon went to the White House today to meet with Obama to see about strengthening the relationship between the U.S. and the world body. The previous administration wasn't the biggest fan of the U.N., so chances are good Ban Ki-moon will like this guy better.
