44, Day 46: Look at These 25 Jobs Please

An ongoing log of the daily activities of the 44th president of the United States during his first 100 days:

-President Obama hit the road today and went to Columbus, Ohio, where he spoke at a graduation for new city police officers and said that his economic stimulus plan saved 25 jobs in the police department that would have been cut. Of course the headlines today aren't about those 25 jobs. They're about the 651,000 jobs lost last month. "I don't need to tell this graduating class what it's like to know that your job might be next," Obama said. "That is not a future I accept for the United States of America."

-The administration's plan to deal with the home foreclosure crisis got a mixed reception from a congressional panel today. While it praised the president's intent with his $75 billion initiative, the Congressional Oversight Panel said the plan wouldn't really help those Americans who owe more on their mortgages than their homes are now worth.

-The president won't be able to sign (or possibly veto) the spending bill to fund government operations for the rest of the fiscal year. The $410 billion measure has gotten hung up in the Senate, where Democrats are falling one vote short of moving the measure through. The Senate will pick up the measure again next week. Without the full measure, both houses of Congress passed a short-term measure to keep the government running through next Wednesday.

-On Monday, look for the president to repeal the federal ban on federal funding of human embryonic stem cell research. Shortly thereafter, listen for the wails of pro-life activists.

-There's a new slideshow at WhiteHouse.gov, this one chronicling Thursday's health care reform summit.
