A Mystery No More
It's a safe bet that Marcus Schrenker won't be piloting an aircraft anytime soon. The financial manager, who authorities believe was trying to stage his own death by parachuting from his airplane on Sunday, was captured and arrested late Tuesday.
According to reports, the 38-year-old amateur stunt pilot was found at a north Florida campsite with deep cuts on his wrists in an apparent suicide attempt. He was bleeding inside a tent at the Quincy site when about 20 officers moved in.
Schrenker, who was facing not only a fraud investigation concerning his three financial service companies but also divorce proceedings, could face federal charges tied to the crash of the plane.
"We've learned over time that he's a pathological liar--you don't believe a single word that comes out of his mouth," said Charles Kinney, a 49-year-old airline pilot from Atlanta, according to the Associated Press. Kinney alleges that Schrenker stole $135,000 or more from his parents' retirement fund.
With the mystery of what happened to Schrenker solved, be prepared for a rash of news stories about people in financial trouble doing crazy things.
