"My Niece Even Married One"

There are so many delicious ironies unfolding in this Bernie Madoff scandal it's almost impossible to keep up.

Today's best comes from ABC News, which reports that a compliance officer at the S.E.C. when it gave Madoff a clean bill of health in 2005 later began to date and then marry Madoff's niece, who was a compliance lawyer for his company.

The S.E.C. compliance officer, who has since left the company, issued a statement saying he had nothing to do with oversight of Madoff while he was in a relationship with his niece.

But here comes the kicker:

"At a business roundtable meeting last year, Madoff boasted of his "very close" relationship with a SEC regulator, chuckling as he said, "in fact, my niece even married one."
