Vice Isn't Recession-Proof, After All
You heard about the hit that mistresses have taken now that the world's wealthy are looking for ways to economize in the wake of heavy portfolio losses?
Well, what do you suppose is hitting the skids as the auto industry sinks deeper into dire financial straights? Detroit's adult entertainment industry.
According to one report, Jon Jon's Cabaret, a topless bar near General Motors and Chrysler-owned assembly plants, has cut the price of a table dance in half - to $10 from $20 - in addition to having to lay off staff.
The Booby Trap, a Detroit strip joint, says business has been "unpredictable."
Contrary to what some folks may claim about vices being "recession proof," it's natural that strip clubs and topless bars would be some of the first victims of a financial downturn.
After all, now that every penny is being counted, you won't want to risk having to tell your wife or girlfriend where $50 disappeared to on your way home from work if the answer involves the word "booby."
