Dean Leaves Yale for Apple U.

Wired logo

Apple Inc. has hired Joel Podolny, the dean of the Yale School of Management, to head a new project called Apple University.

He will step down as dean on November 1, and become vice president and dean of the new program starting in early 2009.

There are few details on the project, but a letter from Yale's president to students says Podolny will "lead educational initiatives at Apple."

Podolny told students in his own letter that Apple is a company that "has had as tremendous personal meaning" for him.

"I obviously wish that the call from Apple had come later in my tenure, but we can't always control the timing around such things," he writes.
