McCain Caught In a Little Fib, a Big Flap
Psst. Have you heard? John McCain was caught on tape with his proverbial pants down just two days before the first presidential debate and as one of the most watched elections enters its final fervent weeks.
McCain was scheduled to appear on The Late Show with David Letterman Wednesday night. At the last minute, however, Letterman received a phone call from the senator himself, canceling the appearance.
McCain was suspending his campaign and rushing off to Washington to tackle the financial crisis.
During the taping, an irate Letterman proceeded to flog McCain for the cancellation and suspending his campaign in the first place.
The final blow came during the middle of the taping, when Letterman learned that McCain was not rushing back to Washington, as he had said, but was being prepped for an appearance on the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, which like The Late Show, is produced by CBS.
Watch the clip from last night's show, including the final zinger of McCain, getting his face powdered next to Couric.
