The Awkward Business of Uninviting a C.E.O.

Former UnitedHealth Group C.E.O. William McGuire won't be teaching at the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management anytime soon.

The Star Tribune in Minneapolis reported last week that the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Business was considering McGuire for "executive-in-residence" status.

But it seems the public wasn't too thrilled with the idea of having him teach Minnesota's executives of tomorrow. Impressionable minds, after all.

McGuire is in the midst of an options backdating scandal that has cost him $37 million in fines and $618 million in options since he left UnitedHealth. He has not admitted any wrongdoing in the matter.

So the university apparently is rethinking the idea.

If it opts not to go ahead with Dr. McGuire, we hear that Jeff Skilling is just down the road in Waseca, Minnesota. And he has plenty of time on his hands.
