From Macworld: Jobs Unveils Time Capsule

Thousands of Apple addicts and reporters are on hand for Steve Jobs' Macworld 2008 keynote speech today at the Moscone Center West in San Francisco. Portfolio.com's Sam Gustin is on hand (all times local):

9:00 AM: Green Day is playing before a full hall, waiting for Steve Jobs to emerge.

9:14 Steve comes out on stage. "Welcome to MacWorld 2008. There's clearly something in the air today."

9:15: "We have delivered over 5 million copies of Leopard. Most successful release of Mac OS X ever."

9:16 Jobs touting Leopard, quoting Walt Mossberg, David Pogue and others.

9:17 Jobs announces Microsoft Office Mac 2008, a new suite of Office software.

9:18: He announces "Time Capsule," a small box that combines AirPort Extreme and a hard drive (500 gigs - $299; 1 terrabyte $499)

9:20 Jobs shows the Time Capsule ad

9:21 iPhone: Jobs says 4 million iPhones sold to date since this summer's launch, or about 20,000 phones per day. Apple now has 19.5 percent of the "smart phone" market, compared with 39 percent for Research in Motion, the maker of the BlackBerry, 9.8 percent for Palm, and 7.4 percent for Motorola.

9:25: Now jobs is demonstrating the new features of the iPhone, including phone maps with location in conjunction with Google and customized home screens.

9:28: Another new iPhone feature is web clips, which turns web pages into an icon on the home screen.

"Web clips is more than just a web site," Jobs says. It appears to be a bookmarking system that adds web pages and bookmarks to the home screen.

9:30: A user can create as many as nine home screens and toggle between them with the flip of a finger

9:31: The maps features comes after working with Google and Skyhook Wireless. It is not GPS but 'triangulating wi-fi."

9:33: The iPhone gets a free software upgrade today, but there is no 3G for the iPhone.
