Fake Steve, Fake Novel, Real Disappointment

Dan Lyons has a wickedly keen ear for the absurdities of Silicon Valley.
In his wildly popular spoof blog, The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs, he wickedly lampooned the arrogant aloofness of Apple cofounder and C.E.O. Steve Jobs, the navel-gazing narcissism of many tech entrepreneurs, and the irrational belief that well-designed consumer technology will solve the world's ills.
Inevitably, the blog has morphed into a book, Options: The Secret Life of Steve Jobs (Da Capo Press; $29.95). It was not a happy or a fruitful transition.
