G.O.P. Donors Watch and Wait
For years, we've been used to the Republicans outraising the Democrats. Now we have the opposite effect, with a freshman Senator, Barack Obama, raising more than the two G.O.P. frontrunners--Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney--combined.
The differences are striking, but don't count out Republican money just yet.
Once the party settles on a candidate--and it will--is there any doubt that the G.O.P. will be able to build a warchest to defeat Obama or Hillary Clinton or John Edwards?
Like investors in the stock market do from time to time, many of the Republican faithful are keeping their money on the sidelines until they feel the time is right.
