That's Why the Lady Is a Traitor?
J. Jennings Moss writes from New York: John McCain today got the backing of Lynn Forester de Rothschild, a top fundraiser for Hillary Clinton's presidential bid and a member of the Democratic National Committee's Platform Committee.
It's not that big a surprise. In July, she told CNN that she didn't like Barack Obama and considered him to be an elitist. Last week, she wrote an opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal, she repeated that attack. "Despite Mr. Obama's assertions that his campaign is about "you," much of his campaign is, in fact, all about him," she wrote.
In a statement released by the McCain campaign, she said she was backing the Arizona senator because his "proven record of bipartisanship and reforming government."
"We can't afford a president who lacks experience and judgment and has never crossed party lines to work for meaningful reform," she said.
The corporate lawyer and telecommunications entrepreneur who was married to British banking scion Sir Evelyn Rothschild spoke at length with Portfolio.com's Lloyd Grove last year.
The story is still getting comments.
"How do you go from supporting Bill and Hillary Clinton to jumping on the bandwagon for McCain and Palin? Sounds to me like this "intelligent woman" doesn't understand the reality of economics when it comes to the mainstream and is totally ignorant about how the U.S. got into its current mess. This woman is frightening," wrote RogerD.
Someone who signed their name "Democrats" offered this simple comment: "Traitor."
