Meg and Carly in St. Paul
Matt Cooper reports from Denver: The McCain campaign has announced the speaker lineup for next week's Republican National Convention in Minnesota. No shock that Carly Fiorina, the former Hewlett Packard C.E.O. and Chairman, and victory chair at the Republican National Committee will speak. So will Meg Whitman, the former C.E.O. of eBay.
Could one of them still wind up as veep? I doubt it. That said, it would shake things up if McCain picked a woman. A few weeks back I suggested that Maine Senator Olympia Snowe, Hawaii governor Linda Lingle and Whitman would make good choices. Ain't gonna happen, I think. But each has real experience and smarts. Of course, another former C.E.O. will be speaking at the convention: Mitt Romney. We may be in for a big national debate about private equity.
