Last Night's Debate

I guess I share the conventional wisdom that Hillary Clinton did well, certainly better than the last time. Obama seemed off his game, without a crisp answer for the driver's-license-for-illegals question that everyone knew would be on the test. I've also never seen a debate where all the heat was at the beginning and then it calmed down. After Clinton and Obama sparred over health care and Clinton and Edwards traded fisticuffs over integrity, it all settled down. Bill Richardson was charming and smart and his "give peace a chance" line was pretty good. You have to wonder if he or Biden has some surge portential at the end. But since Clinton didn't blow it--once more, I note that my spouse works for the junion Senator from New York--she won it. And you do have to wonder why there wasn't more follow up about her on the driver';s license question. Last debate she supported New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer's plan for that, sort of. Then Spitzer dropped the plan and when Clinton offered an emphatic "no" on whether she supported driver's licenses for illegals, there was no follow up. A very lucky break for her. And what's the deal with the question for Hillary about whether she prefers diamonds or pearls. She dodged and said she likes both. Would they really ask Richardson if he preferred Tecate to Dos Equis?
