Thain is Good for McCain

The news that John Thain is going to Merrill is very good for John McCain. Thain is one of McCain's biggest backers and while it doesn't mean that he'd muscle Merrill behind the Arizona Senator, it gives McCain an even bigger place to draw money from Wall Street. Recall that when he became President, Ronald Reagan tapped a Merrill CEO, Don Regan, to be his Treasury Secretary and later his White House Chief of Staff. If McCain were to win, I'd look for Thain in Washington.
